The Emerald Observatory offers a comprehensive display of astronomical information, all conveniently accessible on one screen. It presents this data in a unique yet easily understandable format. The range of information provided includes:

• 12- and 24-hour ordinary clock time
• Times of sunrise and sunset for the Sun, Moon, and the 5 classical planets
• Times of the beginning and ending of twilight
• Heliocentric orrery, showcasing the planets in orbit around the Sun
• Altitude and azimuth for each celestial body (one body at a time)
• Current phase, apparent orientation, and relative size of the Moon
• Current regions of day and night displayed on a world map
• The Equation of Time, solar time, UTC time, and sidereal time
• Month, day, year, and leap-year indicator
• Daily alarm feature (delivered as local notification on iOS 4+ if app is not running)
• Eclipse simulator
• All displayed times are synchronized via NTP to "atomic clock" standard
• iPad location is used by default, but latitude and longitude may be set manually

The app also offers a setting that allows the display to remain on continuously. Additionally, users can tap on the display to move forward in time by a month, day, year, hour, or minute.
